A Wi-Fi Mesh System is a network of wireless nodes that work together to deliver seamless internet coverage across your home. Unlike a single router, mesh systems eliminate dead zones by distributing the signal evenly, ensuring strong Wi-Fi in every room.

Wi-Fi Mesh Systems create a unified network with one name and password, while extenders or repeaters create separate networks. Mesh offers better performance, automatic handoff between nodes, and more reliable whole-home coverage.
If you have a large home, thick walls, or Wi-Fi dead spots, a Mesh System can significantly improve your internet experience. It’s ideal for Irish homes where older building materials or long distances from the router affect coverage.
Mesh Systems offer full-home coverage, faster and more stable connections, and automatic device switching between nodes. They’re easy to manage via apps and are perfect for streaming, working from home, and smart home devices.
Yes, Mesh Wi-Fi Systems are compatible with all major broadband providers in Ireland. You simply connect the main mesh unit to your existing router or modem via Ethernet, and the rest is plug-and-play.
Yes, many Mesh Systems support Ethernet backhaul, allowing you to link nodes with cables for even faster and more stable connections—ideal for gaming or video streaming setups.
Most homes in Ireland will need 2–3 mesh nodes, depending on size and layout. A standard 3-bedroom house usually performs well with two nodes, but larger homes may benefit from an extra unit.
Yes, modern Mesh Systems use advanced encryption like WPA3 and receive regular software updates. Many also include parental controls, guest networks, and built-in security features to protect your data.
Look for coverage area, speed (Wi-Fi 5 vs Wi-Fi 6), number of devices supported, and ease of use. Also consider app features, Ethernet support, and whether it fits your broadband speed and home layout.
The wireless Wi-Fi connection between your Fibre Broadband Wi-Fi Router and your Wi-Fi Device (phone , tablet, laptop, smart TV) is equally as important as the quality and speed of the Fibre Broadband connection that is being delivered to you home.
Wi-Fi is not ubiquitous in your home with a single standard Wi-Fi Router
The better the Wi-Fi connection your device has to the Wi-Fi Router (ie the stronger your Wi-Fi signal) the faster your broadband speed will be.
A No-Fi Zone is an area of your home where there is no / poor Wi-Fi Coverage or a Wi-Fi Blackspot.
Aptus Wi-Fi MESH helps eliminate “No-Fi Zones” and areas of poor Wi-Fi Coverage in your home by repeating the Wi-Fi Signal Wirelessly using Wi-Fi MESH Technology. You simply place the Wi-Fi MESH Repeater in a location in your home and It will then repeat the signal to an area of your home without Wi-Fi Signal eliminating a “No-Fi Zone”
Multipe Wi-Fi MESH Repeaters maybe required for Challanging Homes but a rough guide is as follows
Smaller homes / apartments (1-2 bedrooms) – Wi-Fi Router only recommended.
Medium homes (3-5 bedrooms) –Router and 1 -2 Wi-Fi MESH devices recommended.
Large homes (6+ bedrooms) – Router and 3+ Wi-Fi MESH devices recommended.
If in doubt the Aptus Support team will be happy to offer assistance and guide you based on their years of experience working with Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi MESH.
Your Wi-Fi MESH Repeater will normally connect wirelessly to your main Wi-Fi Router once it’s within range. However, there can be circumstances where there is a benefit to using a cable connection between your main Wi-Fi Router and your Wi-Fi MESH Repeater. For example, if you wish to place your Wi-Fi MESH Repeater in an area of your home that is totally out of range from your main Wi-Fi Router. This can happen where
You have large houses with a large square meterage and the Wi-Fi Signal cannot penetrate all the way through the house to where you wish to place the Wi-Fi MESH Repeater.
You have an older farmhouse with thick stone walls that the Wi-Fi Signal is unable to penetrate.
You have concrete floors in your house, which inhibits the Wi-Fi Signal from successfully extending between floors.
You have a granny flat or work-from-home office outside the house, and the Wi-Fi Signal cannot reach it from the Main Wi-Fi Router due to the challenge the Wi-Fi Signal experiences when penetrating the strong, insulated outside wall of your house.
All of the examples are a good reason to utilise a Self-Install Wi-Fi MESH Repeater Cable, as it will mean that the Wi-Fi MESH Repeater will have an excellent connection back to the Main Wi-Fi Route,r resulting in Excellent Wi-Fi Coverage at the location of the Wi-Fi MESH Repeater
The cost of a self install Wi-Fi MESH Cable is
€14.99 20m Cable (black)
€29.99 40m Cable (black)
Yes if you have internal Cat5/6 cabling in your house, it can be used to connect your Wi-Fi Mesh Repeater to the main Wi-Fi Router and many Aptus customer do this once that cabling is correctly tested and meets the required standards. If you contact the Aptus Support Team they will be happy to assist you with using this cabling to connect up your Wi-Fi MESH Repeater eliminate those “No-Fi Zones” in your house.
If you would like an Aptus engineer to visit your house and install the Wi-Fi MESH Repeater cable for you, then please contact our support team via Phone on 059 9158030. They will be able to advise you if this is possible, and if so, they can provide you with a quotation for this.

The Premium Wi-Fi Router will increase Wi-Fi Signal Strength, Internet Speed and extend Wi-Fi Signal into the difficult to reach areas (“No-Fi Zones”) around the router. Where the Wi-Fi MESH Repeater will extend the Wi-Fi Coverage in a particular direction, depending on the location of the Wi-Fi MESH Repeate,r but it will not necessarily increase the Internet speed available via Wi-Fi
A Wi-Fi MESH Repeater can extend the Wi-Fi Signal in a particular direction in your home, repeating the existing Wi-Fi Signal and generating a New Wi-Fi Signal around the Wi-Fi MESH Repeater where the Premium Wi-Fi Router will increase the Wi-Fi Signal in a greater radius from the existing Wi-Fi Router and not in any direction like the Wi-Fi MESH Repeater.
